Still very good even if previous night was great
First off, hats off to Bill Guaneri for this improvement to the existing sources. It may be subtle to many ears, but it is quite real. Well done, sir.

Like the pair of Hollywood Palladium shows from the previous week, we have one show that lives in the shadow of the other one. But unlike the 1971-08-05 Palladium show, this one does not exactly pale in that shadow. It is in fact a very good 1971 show with typical 1971 energy and that shoot-'em-up feel. The band is in fine even if not rare form. I personally like the feel of Rider very much. It's more than worth a listen, it's worth adding to your collection. Then again, I think this 10-show summer '71 tour was the Dead at their greatest, and every one of these shows (even the off-night partial SBD of the lesser Palladium show) is worth having and listening to.

This show surely has its moments, but it pales in comparison to the previous night.
